Although parts of this talk are lovely and it is all very well meant, it is not quite accurate when it says that women are not as susceptible. The difference is that women use romance novels rather than visual depictions.

But studies show that the effect on a marriage can be just as devastating. No man can read minds like in those books, nor be as perfect. It is very much the same thing as pornography.

And yet we don't hear talks about it, and such books are often socially acceptable. My own mother gave me some.

In response, I would say that to break the cycle, the other assistance beyond bishop and spouse—such as the 12 Step program—are essential. It seems that the more we reach for help, the more effective that help becomes.

Good talk. I would add that, in breaking completely this cycle, some times more than just disclosing to bishop and spouse and trying very hard is necessary. Some times professional assistance and the help of 12 step support groups, such as those now sponsored by the Church, can be part of the solution.
